BIOLOGICAL TEACHING LABORATORY

Harvard University – Cambridge, Massachusetts

In response to changing pedagogy in science education, the MCB teaching lab facility is designed with a focus on flexibility – creating a space that seamlessly enables lecture and small group education within the same space. Working within the restrictive confines of a historic building the space capitalizes on reorienting the typical teaching lab module found on the Harvard campus in order to fit the narrow structural bay of the space. The result is an interactive and engaging intimate classroom setting, where data and hands on experience work side by side. Framed on one end by a simple teaching wall, the design allows for adaptation over time, incorporating the latest A/V technology in a simple framework that can be added to as funds and needs develop over time.
