The overall goal of the WPI Gateway Park Life Sciences Campus is to bring together academic and private research programs in an effort to encourage collaborative research opportunities. 50 Prescott Street is the second developent in the campus, designed to create new space for academic and life science research programs, while at the same time providing a modern reflection of the surrounding 100-year old mill buidlings worthy of a cutting edge biotech incubator. The buidling is designed for lease tenants in need of teaching and resarch space, and includes several programs from WPI – including a residential scale “burn-lab” for the department of Fire Protection Engineering and a hands-on biomanufacturing education and training center – as well as research incubators supporting the local biotech industry and strengthening connections between the academic and industry aspects of research.
