LECTURE HALL AND EDUCATIONAL COMMONS
Harvard University – Cambridge, Massachusetts
Completed with Perkins+Will
.
As part of a significant ongoing transformation of the William James Hall Building, the goal of this effort was to convert a dark underutilized basement area into a vibrant new student-centric educational commons. Centered around a new 135 seat lecture hall, the project incorporates new classroom and seminar spaces, as well as an open commons for study and break-out work, creating a new destination for students and faculty alike. Focusing on bright finishes, open spaces, and strong connections between spaces, the project creates an air of openness and vibrancy despite not having access to natural light, and provides a variety in the scale of spaces – accommodating groups, or large classes in an energized and comprehensive educational commons.
