As the first LEED v4 Certified project in New England, this project was developed with a goal of creating a technology focused, sophisticated research environment, with an eye toward environmental stewardship. The lab design focuses on creating an open and contiguous environment – substituting curved lab support alcoves in place of traditionally closed support spaces for better connectivity and access to natural light. The main lab space is supported by a heavily regulated USDA Arthropod facility, designed to meet stringent containment requirements while still providing the same level of design and sophistication present in the main lab areas. As a small part of a larger campus building, the design of the lab builds upon common themes, bridging spaces across the central corridor at meaningful locations, enhancing connections, and showcasing the research and culture of the lab in the process.
