FOX LAKE RETREAT
Private Residence – Fox Lake, Illinois
With its extreme topography and picturesque views, the site for this small family retreat was an ideal location to create a uniquely modern getaway for the family, which could enhance and celebrate the natural setting while still fitting into the context of its surroundings. Defined by two opposing shed roofs, and set gently into the hillside, the two-story structure integrates into its surroundings balancing an intimate sense of scale with an overt connection to the lake beyond. Main living areas on the first floor overlook a smaller lower level space, creating a two story window wall offering dramatic views of the lake from most areas of the house. All together, the result is a structure which stands out as a unique statement along the lake, but beautifully integrated into its surroundings.
